the sheep
Ardense Voskop
The history of these sheep goes back to the sheep that, for centuries, where used to graze the Ardennes grasslands. The 'Ardense Voskop', as we know to day, is a direct descendant of the sheep that merchants brought to the rich Flemish fields. Local shepherds from 'klein Brabant' (area of Bornem) kept this type of sheep to breed and grow eastern lambs. Not so long ago the 'Voskop' was almost extinct. From a very small population the present stock was selected and raised back to a reasonable number of sheep. The 'Voskop' is at home on rough fields and circumstances. It can easily take warmth, draught, damp and cold.
